back to life, back to reality. . .

after nearly two weeks of nauryz and russian language camp, it is time for me to go back to the village. now, dont' get me wrong, it's not that i don't like my village -- it's just sort of anticlimactic to have to go back and go to work again. that's like any vacation, i suppose. you know you've left on time when you don't wanna go back home.

so here's a quick run down of the nauryz festiivities (i'll spare you the details on the russian language camp. but if you really really want the down low on that one too, email me and i'll send you my notes from the class and we can have the dorkiest conversation in the world wherein i will get very excited about the simplicity of the structure of reported speech in russian).

the night before nauryz, we rented out a small pub and all of the nearly 50 pcvs in town showed up for the occasion. oh man, talk about a hoot. i swear, this was a hoot and i half. but, because my grandma reads this blog. . . i'll stop the story here :)!

the day of nauryz itself was sweet! we went to the hippodrome, watched the traditional kazakh games (kokpar was everything i could have ever wanted and more. unfortunately, shymkent lost to sairam 2-0. i didn't see that one coming. not for a mile.) there were other games too. . . my favorite was the one where two topless oiled up men, chisled from stone tried to wrestle eachother on horseback! yum!! (sorry grandma!)

another great think about nauryz: street food! seriously, i had the best samsa i have ever eaten in my life. if you don't believe me you can ask anyone in shymkent, because i would NOT shut up about it for the rest of the week.

so, in conclusion -- come to nauryz next year. it'll be fun. . . . . c'mon. . . i'll buy you a samsa!

love.

I'm totally with you on the lack of excitement that comes with returning from vacation! I just got back yesterday from a mini Spring Break. Beth, Melissa & I went to Boston to visit Carmen. It was lots of fun! I will give you details and perhaps some pictures when I write to you next.

I'm glad that kokpar was even better than expected. I would definitely consider making the trip out there just for that! :-)

Dear Daughter,

Being a hack totally expresses the term of vaccuum.

God to my heart that you are doing well. With love and hugs & kisses.
